As Halloween creeps closer, we’re thrilled to invite our incredible community of creators to transform the Upland City Plaza into a spine-chilling spectacle of terror! Welcome to the Haunted Halloween Plaza Challenge, your chance to showcase your creativity and design skills by turning the heart of Upland into the ultimate Halloween celebration.
Starting now, you have the opportunity to design the outdoor 3D space that is the Upland City Plaza at 52 Grove St. in San Francisco. Your mission? Simple: make it haunting, make it thrilling, and make it unforgettable. Whether it’s eerie decorations, ghostly effects, or otherworldly surprises, we want to see your most frightening and festive ideas come to life.
We’ve provided a file below to help you get started. But beware, the clock is ticking! Players have until September 24th at 9 AM PT to submit their designs.
Every submission that successfully passes our quality assurance test will earn its creator a special badge to showcase their spooky spirit. Players can use any assets in Upland for this project, but cannot use animals or pictures of any person.
And for the top design? Not only will it be displayed during our Halloween festivities for all to see, but the winner will also receive their very own customizable café in Upland. Imagine the possibilities of owning and personalizing your space, now that’s a treat!
Objective: Create a design that brings the plaza to life with an unsettling and thrilling mood. From eerie pathways to a spooky skybox, your job is to craft an immersive experience that transports players into a haunted world.
Key Constraints:
- No use of existing minted Upland objects, such as Structures, Ornaments, Map Assets, Legits, Go Karts, and Cars.
- Avoid content that includes hate, sexual, or racist themes.
- Avoid content that promotes extreme violence or is inappropriate for a celebratory Halloween setting.
- Keep it spooky, creative, and fun, without being overly graphic or offensive.
Key Areas to Explore:
- Eerie Plaza Pathways: How can the paths through the plaza be designed to evoke fear and tension? Consider twisting, shadowy paths or crumbling walkways that immerse players in a haunted atmosphere.
- Spooky Skybox: Design a skybox that captures the eerie essence of Halloween night, with dark clouds, fog, a full moon, or mysterious stars.
- Asphalt Ground Design: Elevate the look of the plaza with cracked, haunted asphalt or eerie, glowing pathways that make the ground feel as unsettling as the atmosphere above.
Tone and Feel: The environment should feel immersive and haunting, evoking the thrill of Halloween while remaining suitable for all audiences. Aim to create an eerie, unforgettable atmosphere that engages and excites, while adhering to the rules of taste and inclusivity.
